Addison Rotary Meeting Members present:
Guests: Pamela Eldridge, Ed Bocanegra, Bryan Brown The meeting opened with America , the Pledge, Rotary Motto, prayer and lunch. Bob Watson introduced Ed Bocanegra from Harris. Pamela Eldridge from Glen Ellyn Rotary shared information about her club's citrus sale which is a major fundraiser. She shared that members knock on their neighbors' doors, take flyers to work, sell to family, friends, co-workers and other businesses with which members are connected. Offering to deliver fruit to purchasers can help sales. Glen Ellyn will deliver to anyone ordering more than 10 cases. George Ellefsen announced that the Mayor's Ball went well. Raffle sales seemed to be down, but having volunteers from Elmhurst College worked very well. Rotary will not meet on Wednesday, December 24. The December 31 meeting will be held at Solace 601. Bill Schaub brought additional signs for the Citrus Sale. Cases (approx 40 lbs/case) of oranges or grapefruit for $29. A mixed case of oranges and grapefruit will cost $31. We will NOT offer gift packs this year. Bill distributed cards with pick-up directions to give to customers. The Rotary Christmas gift exchange will be held on Wednesday, December 17. Singers from Addison Trail will entertain the club at that meeting. Interact is working on a project to purchase folding chairs for the Naperville Refugee Center . Four Naperville Rotary clubs are involved with the project. Bryan Brown spoke to the club about the Chicago Wolves hockey team, who were founded in 1994 and have never had a losing season. They are ‘a major league team in a minor league sport' having won 4 championships in their history. The Wolves are very community oriented and every game is a charity night. The Wolves will be hosting a Rotary night on February 20. Discounted tickets will be available. A flyer will be distributed and tickets can be ordered through mail or by contacting Bryan . If more than 15 tickets are ordered, we will receive free tickets for another game. They have a great pre-game show with fireworks and laser light show. The Wolves play at the Allstate Arena and have an average attendance of 7,000. Their season runs from October through April. The Wolves will donate to organizations—requests must be made on organization letterhead. The meeting was adjourned at 1:18pm.
