The meeting opened with America , the Pledge of Allegiance, the Rotary 4-Way Test and prayer.

Don Hendricks reminded members that the joint meeting of the Addison Kiwanis and Rotary is being held on TUESDAY, October 27 at noon at Solace 601, 601 W. Army Trail Blvd.

Chuck Wartman collected numbers for the 3 rd grade dictionary project. We will order 495 English and 70 Spanish dictionaries for 3 rd grade students at District 4, St. Philip and Holy Family. The cost will be $1200 with shipping. Don Hendricks will apply for a Rotary simplified grant which will cover 1/3 of the cost of the project. A motion was made and seconded to purchase the dictionaries for students. Motion carried. Stickers will be printed to identify books as a gift from the Addison Rotary.

There will be a meeting for the District 6450 dictionary initiative to provide dictionaries for 25,000 Chicago Public School 3 rd graders. The meeting will be held on October 17 from 9-11:00am at Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills for anyone who wishes to get involved.

Don Hendricks reminded members of the District 6450 Conference being held April 29-May 2, 2010 at Lincolnshire Marriott Resort. Club members should register by November 30. The club will pay for members who intend to participate in the conference that weekend. There will be NO regular Wednesday meeting that week (April 28). Instead, all members are asked to attend the Friday night dinner on April 30. The club will pay for members' & spouses' dinners. The first 8 Rotarians to sign up will receive a free Rotary shirt.

The Mayor's Community Charity Ball is on Saturday, November 21. 6pm cocktails, 7pm dinner. The dinner costs $75—this includes an open bar. All members will pay for their own tickets.

All raffle ticket money should be turned in to George Ellefsen next week at the October 21 meeting. Please sell all your raffle tickets. All money collected for tickets sold by early November comes directly to Rotary.

Silent auction items are needed for the Mayor's Ball, as well. The club needs to provide 20 items for the silent auction. Each club member is being asked to bring a bottle of wine to the October 21 meeting so that we can create (at least one) wine basket for the auction. Irene Boutzarelos will provide a jewelry item. Gary Sinagra has two sports items that are from MCCD.

Bill Schaub was re-nominated as citrus fruit chairman. He will be contacted to see if order sheets can be available early November.

This quarter's invoices will be sent out soon.

The topic “What should our Rotary Club be doing?” was addressed. Split-the-Pot and wine tasting fundraisers were discussed. Matt Delawder will gather information about holding a wine tasting event, either next spring or fall.

Membership-building efforts were also discussed:

•  Sending letter and club trifold to 1700 businesses

•  Personal invitation where each member invites 5 people to attend

•  Following up on personal invitation with letter inviting prospective members to attend an Open House or business after hours event

•  Bob Smith shared the Elmhurst recruitment letter and asked members to make changes to the letter and bring it back to the next meeting.

The Interact Initiation luncheon meeting will be held at Addison Trail High School at noon on Wednesday, November 4. A building tour will be held at 11:15am for any club members who interested in seeing the building changes that are underway at ATHS.

The meeting adjourned at 1:30pm.
