Emily Stern and Molly Fitzpatrick shared information about Rebuilding Together Aurora. Emily is Executive Director and Molly is serving the organization as a ‘volunteer' this year through Americorps, a federal service program. The Aurora branch of Rebuilding Together was founded in 1993. It is a non-profit, volunteer effort to repair and rehab homes for seniors, low-income families, and people with disabilities. Nationally, Rebuilding Together has worked on 10,000 homes. Last year the Aurora branch rehabbed 26 homes, but applications have tripled and they are hoping to work on 35 home this year.

Currently, most of the work done on homes is done during the last two weeks of April. Applications are collected, projects are selected and donations and volunteers are recruited throughout the year. Sponsors cover the cost of materials and work is completed by skilled and unskilled volunteers. Because the need is not limited to one month of the year, Rebuilding Together Aurora is working on developing a year-round program.

A special project was undertaken for a 30 year old quadriplegic and his family in Montgomery . With a grant from Lowes and volunteer contractors and tradesmen, Rebuilding Together Aurora is building an addition to their home that is wheelchair accessible.

Information is available at www.rebuildingtogetheraurora.com or 630-585-7510.

The meeting adjourned at 1:25pm
