Matt Delawder introduced guests: Assistant District Governor, Terry Elliott, Elmhurst Rotary; Marcia Czerwionka; and District Governor, Jim Czerwionka, Bradley-Bourbonnais Rotary. Governor Jim Czerwionka shared personal and District information about Rotary with the club. Under the heading of ‘What it feels like to be a Rotarian?' Jim relayed information about his background-- meeting his future wife in Mexico when he was a young seminarian, working at residential treatment centers for emotionally disturbed children, researching Rotary while looking for a way to become involved in community service, having a daughter become a Rotary exchange student and Ambassadorial Scholar, working on water well projects in Panama and Peru, and dispensing polio vaccinations in Nigeria. He has experienced the impact Rotary makes on the lives of people and believes that Rotary allows ordinary individuals to do extraordinary things. From 1930-2004, Rotary was guided by the principals of Community, Club, Vocational and International service. The new structure of Rotary is the Rotary Team Train, where Membership and Foundation are the engines pulling the train, Public Relations provides the fuel, and the 4 cars of the train are Service—Community, International, Vocation and Youth Programs. The Rotary train rides of the track of Club Service, Fellowship and Administration. The 2009-10 theme for Rotary is “The Future of Rotary is in Our Hands”. Jim urged the club to remain active and to continue to carry on the good work that Rotary can do. A copy of his Rotary ‘Commercials' will be emailed to club members. Bob Smith thanked Jim for his message and Jim, Marcia and Terry for visiting. |
