Don Hendricks introduced the first speaker, Chuck Snyder, who is a member of the Hinsdale Rotary Club. Mr. Snyder shared information about EarlyAct, the newest youth program available through Rotary. EarlyAct is a service organization for Kindergarten through 8 th grade students that originated in Rotary District 6450. Mr. Snyder encouraged the Addison Rotary to sponsor a group and to get involved with school, community and international projects. There is a great deal of reward for Rotary clubs that become actively involved with student programs.

Dr. Hendricks thanked Mr. Snyder for the presentation and said that the Addison Rotary will look into starting an EarlyAct club in one of the District 4 elementary buildings.

Dr. Hendricks then introduced Dr. Lisa Black-Gomez, Director of Bilingual and ESL Services for District 4. After thanking the Rotary for the donation made last year to the Army Trail Playground project, she gave a presentation of bilingual education in District 4. She shared information about the legal requirements of the program, the number of students involved and the process used to teach students in academic areas as well as in language acquisition. Dr. Gomez also shared information about the success rate of students who transition from bilingual classes to English-only classrooms.

The meeting adjourned at 1:15 p.m.
