The meeting opened with “ America ”, the pledge, the 4-way test and prayer.

Bob Smith distributed a sample of a Rotary recruitment letter from Steve Jansen, Elmhurst. Club members were asked to read the letter, make appropriate changes and bring those changes back to the next meeting.

Irene Boutzarelos introduced Evelyn Berleman, a long-time Addison resident and secretary of the Addison Center for the Arts.

Bob Smith introduced the speaker, Katie Hamilton, who is participating in Rotary's Ambassadorial Scholar program. Katie studied at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, earning a Bachelors in Journalism and a Masters in Political Science. She has worked in a homeless shelter for pregnant women in Arizona, as an intern for Good Morning America in New York, in a law firm and on the Tribune editorial board in Chicago. While researching future plans, Katie decided to apply for an Ambassadorial Scholarship, which she received through the Central DuPage Morning Club. She will be studying the culture, public policy, government and economics of Ireland at University College Cork. Significant changes have occurred in Ireland since its admission into the EU in 1987--including remarkable economic growth, increased immigration and economic recession. While studying, Katie is planning a service project in which she will develop an audio-visual history series, documenting how the character of Ireland has changed over the past 20 years. She plans to interview 3 to 4 people in each of Ireland's 32 counties. She will also be writing a column for the website of the Irish American News (http://www.irishamericannews.com/). Katie is hoping to raise funds to purchase equipment needed for her project and she will send a letter with her funding request to the Addison Rotary.

The meeting adjourned at 1:30pm
