Matt Delawder presented the club with a banner that he brought from a Paris Rotary club.

Discussion was held as to whether the raffle would be held on November 18 or at a later date.

John Weiffenbach shared information about the Shorewood Rotary Club, which is five years old and has 18 active members. John spoke of their ‘Ducks 4 Bucks' fundraiser being held on August 9. Ducks can be ‘adopted' for $5.

David Tews spoke about Serenity House, a comprehensive drug and alcohol treatment center in Addison which began in 1985 when funds from the county were used to buy land for the center. The center has 100 beds and about 200 people are served through their outpatient center. Generally, Serenity House's clients don't have insurance or they have used it, and an average stay at the center is 90 days. Serenity House also has ‘recovery homes' in Addison, Naperville and Villa Park that serve as sober living places for clients to stay in before they return to living on their own. All of Serenity House's clients have jobs and are working.

State funding has consistently increased over the years, with the center receiving $1.1 million last year. The state's budget cuts this year will result in Serenity House having to shrink their staff and services for the first time. Tews emphasizes that the cost to society is much higher when treatment programs are not available for those who need them and that the consequences due to lower funding will be great.

The meeting adjourned at 1:45pm
