Addison Rotary Meeting Members present:
The meeting opened with “ America ”, the pledge, the 4-way test and prayer. Bob Smith opened discussion of setting goals for the year in the area of membership, Polio Plus and Foundation. The current Foundation goal is 100%. All club members are billed $25 / quarter to contribute $100 /member/year. It was agreed to maintain that level of giving to the Foundation. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation challenge grant is ongoing. Rotary was challenged to match the $200 million grant. It was suggested that we call other local clubs to find out what they are giving for Polio Plus before determining what the Addison Rotary's contribution should be. Jim Krage addressed the issue of membership goals, suggesting that we strive to add 30 new members this year. We need to intentionally target local businesses, following up with personal calls. We should examine the areas in which we need representation, e.g. clergy, fire department, industrial. Gary Sinagra suggested that we designate a regular meeting for the purpose of making contact and follow-up phone calls. A membership seminar is being held on Saturday, August 8 from 8am-noon at the Oak Hotel in Burr Ridge. Interested club members should indicate at next week's meeting if they wish to attend the seminar Don Weiss revisited the concept of using AAIC's Business After Hours to invite guests to learn about Addison Rotary. Brochures, powerpoint slide show of Addison Rotary project and a brief (10minute) program can be planned. The District Governor, Assistant Governor and Mayor could be asked to speak. Organizations who benefit from the club would be asked to attend. All Rotarians would know the ‘sales pitch' and would actively mingle with guests, encouraging them to join Rotary. Enrollment packets would be available. Business cards would be collected from guests. A thank you letter would be sent to all guests as a follow up. The speaker for the August 5 meeting will be from Serenity House. The meeting adjourned at 1:40pm
