Addison Rotary Meeting Members present:
Guests: Ron Hausermann, Ed Buy, Len Kruesler, Alex Gireau, Chelle O'Connell The meeting opened with the Pledge, Rotary Motto, prayer and lunch. The Salt Creek Cleanup project went well. Thank you to everyone who was involved. Photos are posted at www.addisonrotary.com. The June 11 meeting is a joint meeting with the Kiwanis. County Clerk Chris Kachiroubos will be the speaker for the day. The Installation dinner can be held at Solace 601 on June 20 at 6:30pm. The club will pay for member dinners, guest dinners are $25. Menu and sign-up sheet will be passed around next week. The ATHS Interact Club enjoyed their trip to see Blue Man Group and thanks Rotary for its support. On June 28, Michael Sledmek will be installed as District governor at Gaelic Park. The club will pay for members' dinners. Tom Geraghty & Cal George will attend. Cathy Olivi announced that she will be 'arrested' on June 24 as part of a fundraiser for the Muscular Dystrophy Association fundraiser. Cathy needs to raise $1,600 bail. She will be contacting Rotarians by email, asking them to support MDA. Ed Buy introduced himself and his business, Networking Team International Don Weiss announced that the Village of Addison will soon be served by PACE busses. One route will stop at Friendship Plaza, another will stop at WalMart, Sam's Club and DeVry. Bob Nicholas shared information about the upcoming Elk Grove Village 5 day fest. The Elk Grove Rotary is selling raffle tickets--$5 each or six for $25. All prizes are valued over $100. There is a cash prize. Drawing is Wed, June 11. Tom Geraghty passed out copies of the treasurer's report. Matt Delawder announced that the District 6450 will have a fundraiser for Easter Seals Autism at the Sox vs. Tigers game at U.S. Cellular Field on August 7 at 7:11pm. 50% of all Rotary ticket sales will go to Rotary. Rotarians will have the opportunity to parade on the field before the game. Members will pay half and the Addison club will pay half for any members that want to attend. Bring friends and family! George Ellefsen introduced the speaker for the day, Len Kruesler. Len is a licensed customs broker and he works in import/export and international business and shipping. Len spoke about the economy and the effect of the weak dollar on business. He shared information about the problems with transportation of goods due to the high cost of fuel. Supporting local businesses and small businesses, talking to congressmen and representatives and being aware of the issues are ways that individuals can work to combat these problems.
