Addison Rotary Meeting Members present:
Guests: Jorge DeLeon, Iridia Nevarez-Niewinski The meeting opened with “ America ”, the pledge, the 4-way test and prayer. Host families are needed for the club to sponsor and Rotary exchange student from Mexico . Don Hendricks asked Jorge & Iridia to see if any Interact students' families would be willing to act as a hom away from home for her forth a few months. Jorge will notify Don by Monday if they are able to find any hold families. If the club can support a student, an upfront payment of $1000 needs to be paid, as well a $75 per month fee. The District Governor's installation dinner is being held on Sunday, June 28 at 3pm. Registration is due by June 10. Please notify Cal George if you plan to attend. The installation dinner for Bob Smith and the 09-10 Addison Rotary officers will be held at Solace on Friday, June 26. Cal discussed the 7-11 Raffle that has been discussed as a fundraiser for the club. Don Weiss will apply for a raffle permit from the village as soon as dates, prizes and price of tickets are determined. Tom Geraghty announced that the club's new treasurer will be Chuck Wartman, School District 4's incoming Assistant Superintendent for Administrative Services. Jorge DeLeon and Iridia Nevarez-Niewinski shared information about ATHS Interact Club's activities for the 08-09 school year. Jorge and Iridia, along with three other club sponsors--Esther Delgado, Erik Engel and Marco Gasca--worked to keep the Interact calendar full of service opportunities. Students volunteered at: Itasca PADS shelter one Tuesday each month; flooded areas in Addison in fall; District 4 Foundation Fun Fair; Kiwanis Peanut Day; Park Pride clean-up at Nature Center . They also raised funds to purchase chairs for the Sudanese Refugee Community Center in Naperville , to provide college scholarships for two members (Elizabeth Leal and Crystal Aguilar) and to provide help to the Huerta family after the loss of their son. Salt Creek clean-up with the club is scheduled for Saturday, May 30 beginning at 8:30am. Canoes will be put in the water at the Salt Creek Park Forest Preserve (on Elizabeth Drive between Addison and Wood Dale Roads) by 9:30am. Lunch will be served at Cricket Creek ( Fullerton Ave, east of Villa) after all canoes are in. Jorge was able to borrow 14 canoes for the clean-up event for only $150. Rotary's $1000 scholarship was awarded to Omar Medina. Omar will be invited to attend a Rotary meeting to receive his check. Don Weiss announced the speaker for the June 10 meeting will be Adam Andrzejewski, who is running for governor of Illinois . Plan to attend and invite a friend. Cal George received an application for club membership from Irene Boutzarelos, who was our speaker at the May 20 meeting. Bylaws require that notice of membership applications must be posted, so that members have the opportunity to object to an application. If any club members wish to deny Irene's application, they must contact Cal with their objection before the Wednesday, June 10 meeting. The meeting adjourned at 1:30pm |
