Addison Rotary Meeting Members present:
Guests:Marco Gasca, Iridia Nevarez-Niewinski, Jorge DeLeon, Sandra Angula, Roberto Overhoa, The meeting opened with the Pledge, Rotary Motto, prayer and lunch. Don Hendricks made the following announcements: Mystery Dinner Theater events is on Tuesday, May 27. 6:30pm social hour, 7:00pm dinner, 8:00pm mystery presentation. $45/person, make checks payable to Addison Rotary. May 31 Salt Creek Clean Up Day - Meet at 8am on Saturday at Salt Creek Park (Elizabeth Dr. east of Addison Rd. in Wood Dale). A groundbreaking ceremony will be held at Addison Trail High School on Sunday, June 1 at 1:30pm. George Ellefsen and his grandson attended the Chicago Slaughter game and had a great time. It was a very good experience. Jorge DeLeon introduced two members of the Addison Trail Interact Club, Sandra and Roberto, who spoke to the Rotary about a recent service event at the PADS shelter in Itasca. 24 students, 6 staff members and additional family members made beds, cooked tacos, rice and beans, served and ate dinner with the PADS visitors. The event was a good experience for everyone involved and the students are planning to do it again next year. The students also shared photos and information about the canoe training day that 20 students attended in preparation for the creek clean-up event on May 31. Clean-up participants should bring gloves, garbage bags, grabbers and golf ball retrievers. Interact's international cause is a boys' orphanage in Mazatlan, Hogar San Pablo. Marco Gasca shared information about a trip to Blue Man Group and a restaurant for 15-25 students involved with the Interact Club. Students will be pooling their resources, but there will be a need for some additional funding for the event. George Ellefsen suggested that Marco report back to the Rotary Club after arrangements have been made and the Rotary will cover the balance due. Geri Estvanik shared information about the Addison Parks and Recreation Foundation Golf Outing being held on Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at Bloomingdlae Golf Club. Golf begins at 9:00am. Sponsorship opportunities are available. Don Hendricks shared that the Student Councils from three District 4 schools have been raising funds for Heifer International. Cal George is planning the Installation dinner for late June. Meeting adjourned at 1:25p.m. |
