Addison Rotary Meeting

The meeting opened with the Pledge, Rotary Motto, prayer and lunch.

Don Hendricks made the following announcements:

Mystery Dinner Theater event on Tuesday, May 27 at Alta Villa, 7:00pm dinner. The cost is $45/person for the buffet dinner.

May 31 Salt Creek Clean Up Day - COD is not providing canoes for the event this year. Bill Brewer arranged to rent 10 canoes at $45 each (including trailer). Bob Smith made a motion to spend $450 for the canoe rental. Bill Schaub seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Bill Schaub mentioned that the Rotary has gotten some aid kits into cyclone-ravaged areas in Myanmar , where governments have been unable to make any progress/

Don Weiss introduced the speakers for the day, Addison Police Chief Bill Hayden, Deputy Chief Bill Babyar and Deputy Chief Mike Simo. Chief Hayden spoke of the hardworking, dedicated and positive-minded individuals that serve Addison in the Police Department. The APD has a good reputation for solving crimes, with a high conviction rate. The Village is investing in sophisticated equipment needed by the department. The department participates in area cooperatives such as the Major Crime Task Force and the DuPage Metropolitan Enforcement Group. The APD has worked to tighten their recruitment testing process, making it more likely that officers that make it through the stringent process will be high quality candidates who are more likely to continue serving in Addison .

Deputy Chief Simo, Field Services, spoke of current initiatives-Red light photo enforcement program, roadside safety checkpoint, Click It or Ticket, the development of an administrative adjudication process , landlord/rental licensing, CERTS and the Citizens Police Academy. He concluded his presentation with an explanation and demonstration of the use of a taser.

Deputy Chief Babyar, Support Services, spoke of the communications department which handles, 14,000 911 calls and 81,000 non-emergency calls in a year, the records department, the investigation/detective/gang unit which encompasses a wide variety of crime investigation and the special projects unit which deals with grants, accreditation and homeland security. He concluded his presentation and invited Rotary members to tour the Department's mobile command post.
