Addison Rotary Meeting Members present:
Guests: Noemi Mosqueda, Iwona Okurowski, Joe Zay, Jim Zay The meeting opened with the Pledge, Rotary Motto, prayer and lunch. Don Hendricks made the following announcements: Mystery Dinner Theater event will be scheduled for Tuesday, May 27 at Alta Villa, 7:00pm dinner. The cost would be $45/person. There was a show of hands to get an estimate of the number planning to attend. Kiwanis will be notified of the event. The Senior Citizen Spring Breakfast, which is co-hosted by Rotary and Addison School District 4, is scheduled for Wednesday, April 23. Volunteers should be at Wesley School , 1111 W. Westwood Trail by 9:20am. Volunteers are invited to help deliver dictionaries to the Addison 3 rd graders on Tuesday, April 22 between 10:00 and 11:00am. Rotary outing at Sox Park on Thursday, August 7. All profits go to Easter Seals School for Autism. Tickets cost $40. Our club will pay half of that. The membership present agreed that Tom Geraghty should serve one more term as treasurer of the club. May 31 Salt Creek Clean Up Day begins at 8:00am. Volunteers are needed to work on this project with students from the ATHS Interact Club. Members who wish to attend one of the Chicago Slaughter arena football games on Saturday, May 3 or Saturday, May 17 at 7:30 p.m. should notify Ron Burns as soon as possible. Tickets are $10 and the seating is in the club area, giving access to club facilities, i.e. full service bar, carving table, glass enclosed seating. Members, friends and families are welcome to attend. Contact Ron for more information (630-213-9450) Bob Smith , Bob Watson , Cal George, Tom Geraghty and Don Hendricks will be attending the District 6450 conference at Blue Harbor in Sheboygan on May 1-4. Sohila Parsi introduced the speaker, James Zay. Zay has been a member of the DuPage County Board since 1999. He comes from a manufacturing background and brings his business experience to the Board. DuPage County is divided into 6 districts with 160,000 residents per district. DuPage County has a $395 million yearly budget. $71 million of that is for transportation expenses and 80% of the remainder is used for public safety, including the criminal justice system. In addition, Zay shared the following statistics about DuPage County . It is home to: 700,000 jobs, 118 major corporations, 2 research facilities, DuPage Airport, 16 colleges, 7 hospitals, 39 park districts, 22 municipalities and 24,000 acres of forest preserve land.
