Addison Rotary Meeting Members present:
Guest: Dan Eller, Boy Scouts The meeting opened with “ America ”, the pledge, the 4-way test and prayer. Cal George announced that the District Conference, April 30-May 2, has commuter and kids packages available. He also announced that the District Governor's fiancee's father passed away. Don Hendricks asked if the club would be willing to match funds raised at Lincoln School for Heifer International. The students raised $260 and hope to purchase 2 sheep, 2 pigs and 2 flocks of chicks. George Ellefsen moved, Phil Jimenez seconded the motion to donate $260 in matching funds to Heifer International. Motion carried. George Ellefsen announced that the District 4 Foundation Family Fun Fair is scheduled for Friday, May 1, 5-9:00pm at Indian Trail Junior High School . All community members are invited to attend. Flyers will be distributed at next week's meeting. Don Hendricks asked if Gary Sinagra would put flyers on pizza boxes, as well. George Ellefsen also suggested that the club consider making a donation to the “Keep Driscoll Open” fund. There will be a Rotary board meeting next week, April 15, at 11:30am Brent Diers reported that the funds raised at Lutherbrook's Bowl a Rama in February has already been used to totally refurbish the cottages with new furniture and carpeting. MCCD Golf Outing is June 15. Lutherbrook Golf Outing is June 9. Addison Rotary is a hole sponsor. The annual Senior Spring Breakfast is being held at Wesley School , 1111 W. Westwood Trail, on Wednesday, April 22. Available Rotarians should be ready to start serving breakfast at 9:30am. Dan Eller from Boy Scouts of America was the guest speaker. Dan is a member of the Bloomingdale/Roselle Rotary and serves as their Youth Exchange Liaison. BSA will be celebrating its 100 th anniversary next summer and will be holding its Jamboree in Washington , D.C. The Three Fires Council is one of 300 councils in the USA and includes 2,200 young men in the program. Dan works in the Northern Trail District (boundaries: York Rd/Thorndale/County Farm Rd./North Ave. ) to support packs and troops with materials, help and advice. Addison has three Cub Scout packs (at Fullerton , Wesley and Stone Schools —for 1-5 graders) and two Boy Scout troops (at St. Paul and Army Trail—5 th gr through 18 years old). Three Addison boys completed Eagle Scout requirements last year. Recruiting members and fundraising to support three camps are important efforts of the Council at this time. They will be holding a Friends of Scouting Auction at the Medinah Shrine Center on Thursday, April 23, 7-10:00pm. The evening will include a regular auction and silent auction with a wide variety of items on which to bid. A full page ad in the program booklet costs $1000, but the council would appreciate support at any level. The meeting adjourned at 1:25pm |
