Addison Rotary Meeting Members present:
Guests: Lisa Zucchero, Steve Humphrey, Sherri Anderson The meeting opened with song, Pledge, Rotary Motto, prayer and lunch. Cal George announced that the Rotary District conference is being held May 1-4 in Sheyboygan. Cal will be attending the President Elect Training Seminar over the weekend. A sign-up sheet was passed around for the Chicago Slaughter arena football game on Saturday, May 3 or Saturday, May 17 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 and the seating is in the club area, giving access to club facilities, i.e. full service bar, carving table, glass enclosed seating. The Senior Citizen Spring Breakfast, which is co-hosted by Rotary and Addison School District 4, is scheduled for Wednesday, April 23. Rotarians are needed to help serve breakfast from about 9:15 to 10am. Steve Humphrey invited Addison Rotarians to visit the Villa Park Rotary Club which meets each Tuesday at 12:15pm at Villa Nova. Scott Helton introduced Dr. Steve Humphrey, Superintendent of Schools, and Sherri Anderson, Director of Community Relations, for DuPage High School District 88. Steve shared information about the progress of the building improvements that are to be made to Addison Trail High School as a result of the referendum that was passed by voters last April. Construction will begin this summer and is scheduled to be completed by Fall 2010. Much of the work that is to be done is 'behind the walls'-HVAC, electrical, plumbing. At Addison Trail, an academic wing will be added to the southeast side of the building, an multi-purpose athletic facility will be added on the north side of the building, a new commons area and guidance offices will be added in the courtyard and main entrance, parking lot and traffic flow changes will be made. Additionally, the entire building will be configured for wireless technology. District 88's administrative offices will be moving into the 'old' Addison Library at the end of this summer. A transitions program, which helps 18-22 year old students learn life skills, will be housed on the lower level of the library building. The meeting adjourned at 1:33p.m. |
