Addison Rotary Meeting February 20 , 2008 Members present:
Guest: Mary Link, Driscoll Catholic High School Meeting opened at with Pledge, Rotary motto, prayer and lunch. Next week's meeting (Feb 27) will be held at Addison Trail High School in the Blazer Room beginning at 12:00 noon. We will be recognizing the newly formed Interact Club, which consists of 26 students and two sponsors. The Club will be presented with a banner and plaques and students will be receiving membership cards and pins. Jim Czerwionka, District 6450's 2009-10 governor elect, will be attending the lunch meeting. Rotary members will be paired up with students, giving Rotarians the opportunity to become acquainted with individual Interact members. The meeting will begin promptly at noon in so that students can return to class by 1:30pm. Cathy Olivi was thanked for the work she did with the large Rotary banner. In response to an email that requested help, a motion was made by George Ellefsen and seconded by Jim Krage to make a $500 donation to Serenity House. The motion carried. A District 6450 Workshop is being held on Wednesday, March 19 from 6 - 8:30pm. Don Hendricks recommended that Cal George and Bob Smith, as incoming president and vice president, attend the workshop as well as any other members who would like to learn more about Rotary and the District's upcoming projects. Tom Geraghty announced that the Rotary International Foundation donation has been sent in for the first half of the year. Tom Geraghty introduced the speaker, Mary Link. Mary, Driscoll's Director of Development, has been at Driscoll High School for 10 years. She has had a great deal of experience coordinating fundraisers and special events for the school. Mary shared the importance of thinking about what works for your organization and what matches your mission when planning events and fundraisers. Organizations need to realize that events have can have a limited life span and that even successful fundraisers can benefit from fresh ideas and approaches. Mary also shared information about Driscoll's Super Raffle XIII and thanked Rotarians whose companies are supporting the raffle as sponsors. George Ellefsen encouraged members to consider buying a $100 Super Raffle ticket to support DCHS. The raffle drawing will be held on May 15, 2008 The meeting adjourned at 1:25p.m.
