Sherri Lloyd, a volunteer for The Humanitarian Service Project thanked the Addison Rotary for its support of three senior citizens through the Senior Citizen Project. This program provides over 100 seniors with a monthly grocery delivery that includes fresh fruit & vegetables, frozen meat, paper goods and non-perishables. Humanitarian Service Project also runs the Children's Birthday Project which provides new books and toys for over 1000 low-income children, the Christmas Offering which provides groceries and gifts for needy families and the Feed the Kids Project which provides supplemental food for needy families during the summer months. The organization, which was founded in 1979, serves people in DuPage and Kane Counties . Rotary Area 2 Assistant Governor Leon Wilson addressed the club, citing that the Humanitarian Service Project is a good example of the Rotary's ‘Service above self' motto. Wilson encouraged the club to keep working hard since the new theme for Rotary for the upcoming year will keep everyone busy. The Rotary faces many challenges—decreasing membership, a new Bill & Melinda Gates challenge grant, the death of two exchange students—but clubs can step up to those challenges and continue to succeed. We need to engage the next generation in Rotary involvement. Rotaract Clubs (for 18-30 year olds) are needed to bring young members in. Governor Slevnik's wife is encouraging each club to donate $100 to support newborns. Wilson will no longer be serving as our area AG. He has been reassigned. The incoming District Governor Jim Czerwionka is highly organized and will take District 6450 to a new level. Meeting was adjourned at 1:30. |
