Guests: Karen Miller and Joann Sampson, Addison Police Department

Karen Miller and Joann Sampson shared information with the club about the Village of Addison 's new photo-enforcement cameras.

The purpose of the program is to change driver behavior, save lives and reduce accidents at the corners where red light cameras are placed. Corners are selected based on an analysis of accidents that occur. The top 10 traffic crash intersections are then considered for this program. Lake St. and Addison Rd was approved for cameras by the Village Board in May of 2008 and now it has been approved by IDOT.

Tickets are issued to the registered owner of vehicles that are in violation. Drivers are not photographed. The fine for a violation is $100, but this is a civil fine. It does not go on the driving record of the vehicle's owner.

Three photos and an 11-second video are taken as a car goes through an intersection and drivers who receive a citation are able to view the video online. Photos are reviewed by an outside agency and then passed onto the Addison Police Department. Because of the review process, there may be a 14 day delay before receiving a ticket for a violation.

Many violations occur when drivers fail to stop completely before turning right on a red light.

A FAQ sheet, keychain and alcohol level calculation chart were passed out and club members had the opportunity to ask questions about specific ways in which the system works.

Meeting was adjourned at 1:40.
