Addison Rotary Meeting Members present:
Don Hendricks informed the club that we will be working to help distribute dictionaries to 150 schools on the south side of Chicago . He is working with Marvin Walker, a representative from the only Chicago south side Rotary club, to coordinate delivery efforts. They will look into getting south suburban Rotary clubs involved as well. Tony Cimino volunteered his fax line for transmitting delivery information to and from the schools. 35,000 dictionaries are currently being warehoused in Burr Ridge. A number of suggestions were made regarding methods of transporting the books from the warehouse to the schools. Ideally, Rotarians would visit the schools to present the dictionaries to the 3 rd grade students. Don Weiss made a motion, seconded by Irene Boutzarelos, to make a $1000 donation to Shelter Box to be used to aid the earthquake victims in Haiti . Motion carried. NEDSRA's annual fundraiser is coming in March. The club will decide whether to make a general donation to the fundraiser or to continue giving donations for specific needs. It was suggested that Karen Lesniak be asked to join Rotary. Don Hendricks asked if any Rotarians were planning to bowl in Lutherbrook's Bowl-a-Thon on February 13 & 14. Bob Smith reported that there are 1900 non-residential addresses in Addison that a Rotary recruitment letter could be sent to. Diane will re-send a copy of the recruitment letter to club members for final changes. A Rotary message can be included in an upcoming water bill. It was suggested that this might be the time to plan the wine-tasting, so that potential members can respond to a specific event invitation. Don H. suggested that more retirees be recruited by going to visit the Addison Senior Group. Membership cost info should be clearly communicated to an potential new members. The meeting was adjourned at 1:30pm.
