Addison Rotary Meeting Members present:
The meeting opened with America , the Pledge, 4-Way Test and invocation. Don Hendricks announced that Stephanie Walsh from Easter Seals in Villa Park will be the speaker at the January 21 meeting. An email was shared informing club members that Bill Brewer was hospitalized. Lutherbrook's Bowl-A-Rama is on February 7 & 8. Rotary will probably not be represented by a bowling team, but a donation will be made. Citrus fruit money has been deposited and the bill has been paid. An additional $700 transportation bill was received and is being disputed. Don Hendricks and Bob Watson both spoke with Dave at Solace 601 about the possibility of moving the weekly meeting to Solace. Dave said they'd be happy to have the club meet there, they could match the $12 price and they could store meeting equipment at the restaurant. One downside is that the restaurant wouldn't work for larger group meeting (such as Rotary/Kiwanis/AAIC Candidate Luncheon). Addison Reads committee met to recap/assess the first year of the program and to begin making plans for Addison Reads 2009. Rotary supported the program in 2008. Addison Trail's TPO Spaghetti Dinner is being held on Saturday, February 7, 2009. The all-you-can-eat dinner is a good value--$5 for adults, $3 for children, students thru high school age and senior citizens. Raffle tickets are also available--$1 each or $5 for 6 tickets. The events raises funds for Presidential Classroom, a college scholarship and the school's post prom event. Cal George spoke about the membership drive. He asked George Ellefsen to be the chairman of the membership committee. A breakfast or lunch recruitment meeting will be held. Cal passed out forms for members to fill in with the names of five people that they could invite to visit Rotary. If members bring a guest, the club will buy the visitor's lunch. It was suggested that we make an effort to involve the Hispanic community, perhaps through Leticia Rodriguez and the DuPage Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Upcoming speakers: January 21 Easter Seals The meeting adjourned at 1:30pm |
